Can you actually learn flute online?
Absolutely! With the advances in technology in our post-COVID world, I’ve been able to create extremely enriching online flute lessons by using multi-camera setups, high quality microphones, slide decks, interactive games, and more. No matter if you’ve played before or not, learning flute online is completely doable.
How long should flute lessons be?
The length of flute lessons varies by student age, level, and more, however the most common (and recommended) flute lesson length is 1 hour weekly.
How do I find the right online flute teacher?
To find the right flute teacher, you’ll want to take stock of what you hope to achieve and the way you learn best. Do you require a lot of structure and accountability for practicing? Are you hoping to be a jazz flutist? Finding the right flute teacher is important and unique to each student. Here are some questions you can ask during our first lesson or with any flute teacher you are considering:
How do you handle a student that’s struggling with their motivation?
What styles of music do you typically teach?
Will we work on my band music, or is there other music that I’m expected to play?
Do you grade flute practice logs?
At what age can you start learning the flute online?
Online flute lessons require a bit higher level of fine motor skills and attention ability than in-person flute lessons. Therefore, most online flute students begin lessons around 11 years of age.
