FAQs About Flute Lessons in San Diego
Here are some frequently asked questions students and parents typically have when considering flute lessons. If you have any additional questions, feel free to contact me!
How long should flute lessons be?
The length of flute lessons varies by student age, level, and more, however the most common (and recommended) flute lesson length is 1 hour weekly.
How do I find the right flute teacher?
To find the right flute teacher, you’ll want to take stock of what you hope to achieve and the way you learn best. Do you require a lot of structure and accountability for practicing? Are you hoping to be a jazz flutist? Finding the right flute teacher is important and unique to each student. Here are some questions you can ask during our first lesson or with any flute teacher you are considering:
How do you handle a student that’s struggling with their motivation?
What styles of music do you typically teach?
Will we work on my band music, or is there other music that I’m expected to play?
Do you grade flute practice logs?
At what age can you start learning the flute?
You can start learning the flute as early as 5 years old. Most flute teachers (like myself) are happy to work with younger students. Flute lessons can help build fine motor control and finger dexterity, and students that begin taking flute lessons at a young age often go on to lead incredibly rich musical lives with a great emotional outlet in music.
What areas in San Diego do you teach?
I teach flute lessons in all of San Diego, but particularly in Imperial Beach, Chula Vista, and Coronado. I also teach flute lessons in Clairemont, Poway, and La Mesa, and La Jolla.
