July Studio News

Hello fluties and parents!

It’s been such a wonderful and fun summer so far working with everyone and working towards our recital at the end of the month. Some of you may have noticed short written assignments, such as compositions or critical thinking about music history and music theory going out to your kiddos this summer.

This summer we’ve actually been taking it pretty easy. I know that rest is important and kiddos need to take some time to enjoy themselves between school years and spend time with family, so we don’t stress as much on the practice time. Really, as long as they’re getting some form of practice in once per week, I’m happy. I have been giving worksheets out (composition assignments, music history, music theory) which is great practice not only at keeping up with musical chops, but also with their history chops (lots of what we talk about in music history has direct correlations with their social studies and history classes in school).

As you know, we’ve got our summer recital coming up, which happens to be the very FIRST recital in this Fort Wayne Flute Studio’s history! I’m so excited to start pairing up students with their accompanists and have them work to perform one or two pieces. Remember, this is super important, so be encouraging to your student and if you can be present, make a big deal! Bring flowers, take them out for ice cream after, etc. Your kiddo has worked hard for this, so we want to make sure they’re rewarded!
